Why are written prescriptions required?
In Florida, it is unlawful for any person to engage in the practice of hypnosis for therapeutic purposes unless such person is a practitioner of one of the healing arts, or acts under the supervision, direction, prescription, and responsibility of such a person.
In the State of Florida, according to Statute 485 which regulates the practice of hypnosis, a written prescription is required when hypnosis goals have a therapeutic purpose that supports a medical treatment plan; and when hypnosis is provided by someone other than a member of the healing arts professions.
Written Prescriptions
A written prescription is a form of communication between the referring healing arts professional and the hypnotherapist. It proves the responsible referring member of the healing arts profession authorizes hypnosis for a therapeutic purpose.
When we receive such a written prescription, we seek and require the referring specialist's guidance, direction and supervision. Additionally, we provide the referring health practitioner written feedback about intended hypnotic approaches or modalities, progress and results, and work to assure his or her medical goals for hypnotherapy use are being met.
Can hypnosis for a therapeutic purpose begin without
a written prescription?
