FAQs
What Makes Hypnosis Successful?
The intention to succeed is most important. To be successful the client must have the intention to be successful and believe outcomes will be achieved.

What is Self-Hypnosis?
Self hypnosis is a technique a person learns to put oneself into a highly focused state of concentration or relaxation whenever desired for whatever reason.  With training any person can learn to self-hypnotize.

Why Teach Self- Hypnosis?
Self hypnosis is completely structured and can be controlled by the person. It can be used whenever, wherever, and however the person decides. It is a great way to safely "self-medicate" without worry of over doing it! Once a person learns how to self-hypnotize the person gains a life long skill which can be used as needed.

The Hypnotic Process: When hypnotized a person is
  • Absorbed in the process
  • Able to redirect attention anytime
  • Alert
  • Aware of surroundings
  • Totally in control
What is a post-hypnotic suggestion?
Post hypnotic suggestions are generally offered during hypnosis to help affect a desired change after the hypnosis session is over.
Example:  (Weight Control) When you go to a restaurant, you will be able  to look at the menu, and notice the healthy choices will pop out, and invite you to  choose them.

What is trance?
Think of trance as something that is quite common in every person's daily life. People move into and out of trances while watching television, doing the laundry, cooking a meal, watching the kids. A trance is a different state of awareness while being alert to suggestions.
Example: If while totally absorbed watching a great show on TV, someone yelled, "FIRE", the TV watcher could immediately run out of the room. A trance state, during hypnosis is the same. While the person in trance is absorbed, he or she can always immediately come out of the trance state and appropriately respond as needed. This can be done whenever desired or needed.

What if I can't be awakened when in a hypnotic trance?
This is a myth. A trance is not sleep. A person may enjoy the trance state and wish to stay longer in that pleasurable place, but it is impossible not to return from a hypnotic trance.
What are deepening techniques?
Deepening techniques are used to go deeper into a relaxed state. They are used as tools to help the critical (conscious) mind become less involved, while the higher consciousness can learn. The interesting thing is it is not always necessary to go deeply into a trance state. In fact, most hypnosis is done while a person is in a fairly light trance state.

What is induction?
Induction is the process of moving from full conscious awareness into a trance state so the higher conscious mind may work and learn more easily. This is when focused concentration really begins. It might interest you to know inductions can happen pretty quickly, especially after you get really good at being hypnotized! This is a good thing!

What is guided imagery?
Guided imagery is a technique that involves using the imagination and mental images to promote relaxation, changes in attitude or behavior. This is an excellent technique for physical healing. Some call it visualization. Some say guided imagery is different from visualization, because a specific image is suggested by the hypnotist, whereas in visualization, the person is able to visual whatever they choose. Either way, the process of using images to tap into the higher conscious state is effective and useful. It can be self-directed or directed by others. There are many different types of guided imagery techniques. Some commonly used types include relaxation imagery, healing imagery, pain control imagery, and mental rehearsal.

What is Florida Statute 485?

How Does The Conscious Mind (CM) Work?
The CM has specific duties none of which include learning. It develops beliefs, patterns or habits that are useful in life. The CM can also create roadblocks in life. Here are a few of itsthe duties:
  • Analyzes (events, thoughts, etc.)
  • Criticizes ("I am afraid," "I am not smart enough", "I am too tall," etc.)
  • Does comparisons based on past experience
("I never did it before", I always did it that way")
  • Judges ("I can't," "I am too tall,")
  • Makes decisions based on current filters ("No way"  "This won't happen" )
  • Sets goals
  • Takes in information from the environment

As the conscious mind is quieted, research using MRI's and PET scans identified:
  • A distinct change in brain activity during the induction of hypnotic states
  • A change in brain activity during the time suggestions are being processed

How Does the Sub-Conscious Mind (SCM) Work?
The sub-conscious mind is the powerful part of the mind that determines who we are, what we are, and whatever we hope to become. The sub-conscious mind has a number of vital duties. They are:
  • Regulates involuntary function
    - Automatically and protectively runs the body (Heart rate, circulation, etc).
    - Functions best as
a whole unit (Mind and Body together)
  • Memory storage
    - Makes associations (links similar things and ideas) and learns quickly stores
      and organizes all memories
    - Presents repressed memories for resolution
  • Domain of emotions
    - Takes everything personally (the basis of perception is projection)
    - Is a highly moral being
    - May repress unresolved negative emotions as protection
    - Enjoys serving but needs clear orders to follow
    - Does not process negatives directly
  • Foundation of imagination
    - Is symbolic (uses and responds to symbols)
    - Controls all perceptions (regular and telepathic; receives and transmits)
    - Habit control
    - Maintains instincts
    - Needs repetition until a habit is installed
    - Is programmed to continually seek more and more
    - Generates, stores, distributes, transmits "energy"
    - Works on the principal of least effect (the path of least resistance)
  • Learning and Behavioral Changes
    - All learning and behavioral changes take place here.
